How Obsidian works

Obsidian lets you buy real gold and silver, held in a real vault, and move it like money.

Buy it in seconds. Send it to anyone. Hold it. Redeeming it for the real metal is coming soon. Not live in the app yet.

Every balance you hold is a claim on real metal in Alpine Gold Exchange custody. You can buy Goldbacks, US gold and silver coin notes, and (as they ship) gold and silver bar notes.

Each ticker has a whole-unit denomination matched to how that metal is used and priced. You can hold fractions on Solana. Unit price tracks the fraction, not a full ounce, unless the unit is one ounce.

Checkout mints a digital note. Physical delivery is a later redemption step, not part of buy.

Your gold and silver is held in a real vault by Alpine Gold Exchange (AGX), one of the most reputable precious metals dealers in the US. Obsidian doesn't hold the metal itself, we build the app and the rails on top of a real, named vault.

Buying and holding costs a ~0.25% protocol fee.* There's no hidden markup, we'll always show you the actual price before you buy.

Your balance is backed by real metal held in Alpine Gold Exchange's insured, segregated custody. It never sits on our balance sheet, and the amount backing every balance is on the record.

Redemption is a feature coming shortly. When it ships, you'll start a redemption in the app and our team will handle physical fulfillment out of the vault. It is not live in the product yet.

A cash-out path at market price is planned alongside redemption. It is not available in the app yet.

A wallet like Phantom reads a token's price from on-chain trading activity. These tokens are not trading on any exchange, so there is no trading price for the wallet to read and it falls back to $0.00. That is a missing market price, not a valuation of what you hold.

Your balance is priced against Alpine Gold Exchange's published metal rate. That figure, and the day's move, show in the Obsidian app rather than in your wallet.
